Trek Wars (So Different)

Are there any Star Trek fans in the house? I'm I guess a fan of the show but more so a fan of the original and Deep Space Nine. People compare Star Trek and Star Wars all the time. Just because they both have the name "Star" in their title doesn't mean they are in any way related. Star Trek is science-fiction and science-fact where Star Wars is more fantasy. Don't get me wrong, I love them both, however if I had to choose between the two, it would have to be Star Trek.
The reason some people tend to think Star Trek is boring is because there is more character development and it focuses more on a possible future where there is no war or poverty or racism. Yes, Trek does have it's issues with conflict, war and drama but the main point of it is that it's a view of how the human race actually over comes differences and survives into the 23rd and 24th centuries. The crew of each show and movie deal with living and working with each other and overcoming the differences they all have. It also focuses on exploration and gives us the possibility that there is more beyond this system. Earth still exists, and we have overcome global warming and all that shit we are dealing with now. The technology used and introduced in Star Trek has really influenced our culture. For example, the communication devices used in the original 60s show influenced the design of the Motorola flip phone. Also, who wouldn't want to have a transporter to use? No more being late to work, no more looking for parking spots and risking a ticket. There are just so many possibilities. Of course, Star Trek also has a focus on friendship and family.

Star Wars on the other hand, is far more accepted in society because it does have a great deal of action, the stories aren't that complex and things are pretty much spelled out for you. Good verses evil. The Dark Side vs. The Light Side. There is far more fantasy in this world. Light sabers are fucking awesome and the fact that it kind of incorporates some of the midevil storyline replacing swords with light sabers and replacing kings with darths, it is a more fun view of that era. You have princesses, knights, and more. And plus, it does not take place in the future. Remember, "A long, long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." This takes place in the past in a world unknown to us. This is a totally different universe and world. This is a whole different world compared to Star Trek even though they both contain the word "Star" in their titles.
Star Trek and Star Wars, two of the most popular franchises in the world. One taking place in the future, and one taking place in the past, yet both significant to our culture. Star Trek, would have to be more significant to me by far while I will always have a love for Star Wars.
